Ghost in the Machine

AATB was invited to the Seoul Institute of the Arts for a three-week residency and workshop, open to students from many majors: theatre, dance, playwriting, Korean music, applied music, film, broadcasting, visual design, creative writing and digital art.

The workshop took place in a virtual environment, starting from mundane everyday objects. The students 3D-scanned them precisely, digitising these fragments of reality with their textures and materials, then recorded human movement with a motion-capture system and linked it to the objects, bringing them to life. Different movements created different expressions, and the objects began to interact, questioning, adapting or extending a familiar object and the way it is used: agents of protest, celebrations or warnings of what might come, or simply a new way of experiencing the familiar.
