The Flaying of Marsyas by Miles Greenberg

AATB for Miles Greenberg: A durational performance (7 Hours) of Miles Greenberg and 4 robotic arms at Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands

This piece is a retelling of The Flaying of Marsyas, a scene from Greek mythology in which Marsyas, a satyr, challenges Apollo to a music contest and, in losing, is condemned to be flayed alive for his arrogance. Over the course of the performance, Mike Greenbergs body gradually became covered in cane sugar syrup, immobilizing it. An original composition by Personal JJesus was interspersed with 5 minute interludes of silence, which was filled with the sound of his amplified heartbeat and breath in real time, picked up by a modified stethoscope integrated into the ropes.

Four robotic arms, each equipped with a camera, are set up around the performer, fluidly moving around him and capturing him for the entire duration of the piece.
